Diverse individuals brought together to achieve a united goal: this is the challenge of teamwork. Combined use of the Klein Group Instrument® (KGI™) and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) instrument provides a powerful approach for turning diversity into an asset.
The KGI approaches the challenge of diversity in teams through the assessment of four broad areas (leadership, negotiation, task focus, and interpersonal focus), which are essential to successful teamwork.
The MBTI instrument focuses on four dimensions of personality differences in the ways individuals perceive and process information and make decisions.
The resulting intersection of personality with group behavior can identify the roles and activities different team members are likely to find attractive or uncomfortable. Suggested strategies for developing skills found in the KGI's profiles can also be affected by MBTI preferences.
For example, consider the KGI's Group Facilitation, a subscale of Leadership. A person with a preference for Extraversion on the MBTI instrument may be energized with the social aspects of Group Facilitation (making friends, helping others speak out), while someone with an Introverted preference might find this aspect of teams important, but it will take more energy to engage in these behaviors.
