The Authors of the PMAI® Instrument

Carol S. Pearson, Ph.D.

Dr. Carol Pearson, coauthor of the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator® instruments, is director of the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership and a professor of leadership studies in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland College Park.

Dr. Pearson is a leading Jungian archetype theorist and best-selling author. Some of her books are The Hero Within; Awakening the Heroes Within; Magic At Work (Doubleday, 1995); The Hero and the Outlaw (with Margaret Mark); and Mapping the Organizational Psyche (with John Corlett). In her coaching/consulting practice, she works with executives, entrepreneurs, professionals, and management teams. She also speaks and leads seminars and workshops in Canada, Europe, and Central and South America, as well as throughout the United States.

Hugh K. Marr, Ph.D.

Dr. Hugh Marr is coauthor of the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator instrument. He is a psychologist in the private practice of psychotherapy in the Washington, D.C., area, where he also consults to mental health and substance abuse programs and teaches graduate classes at Argosy University. Dr. Marr has been a long-time student of Jungian psychology, and his doctoral studies at the University of Maryland ultimately led to the development of the PMAI® instrument.

Pat Adson, Ph.D.

Dr. Pat Adson (Ph.D., LP, CHIC) is a coach and psychotherapist in private practice in Rochester, MN. Her doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota and her training in family therapy and coaching (at The Institute for Life Coach Training and the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara) have led her to an ongoing interest in teaching and mentoring psychologists. She has designed and taught courses and authored books on integrating psychological theory and practice. She explores her interest in the use of archetypes in life coaching in her books Finding Your Own True North & Helping Others Find Direction in Life and Depth Coaching.

John Corlett, Ph.D.

Dr. John Corlett teaches organizational psychology at the University of Virginia and also consults to private, public, and nonprofit companies on issues of organizational culture and renewal. His focus for over a decade has been on the integration of Jungian concepts into his work with executives, managers, and their organizations. He is coauthor (with Carol Pearson) of Mapping the Organizational Psyche, which explores the assessment and application of archetypes to corporate culture.

Allen L. Hammer, Ph.D.

Dr. Allen Hammer is an independent consultant and former senior scientist at CPP, Inc. His strong psychometrics focus has led to his many contributions to and books about the application of some of the best-known assessment instruments (MBTI®, Strong Interest Inventory®) in use today. He is coauthor of the manuals for the MBTI and MBTI Step II instruments, and codeveloper and member of the development team for the soon-to-be-released MBTI Step III™ assessment. He coauthored (with Carol Pearson) the manual for the Organizational and Team Culture Indicator instrument.
